Police are investigating a series of suspicious car and boat fires across the Moreton district, with detectives warning that the incidents may be connected.
The Caboolture Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is examining multiple fires reported in Caboolture, Caboolture South and Morayfield throughout August.
The first incidents occurred in the early hours of 4 August, when a silver Mitsubishi Outlander was found ablaze outside a Morayfield Road, Caboolture South residence between 1.50am and 2am. Minutes later, a silver Toyota Hilux caught fire on Maria Court in Morayfield.
Later in the month, on 10 August, a purple Mazda 2 was reported on fire outside a Torrens Road, Caboolture South property at around 10.05pm. The following night, a silver BMW X5 was found burning on Wilson Street, Caboolture, between 2.50am and 3.12am. In each case, police believe the fires were deliberately lit, with no injuries reported.
In addition to the vehicle fires, a boat parked on Grant Road, Caboolture South, was set alight on two occasions, first on 7 August at approximately 9pm, and again on 9 August at 4.30am. Firefighters extinguished the blazes both times, and no complaints have been made regarding the boat fires.
A police spokesperson said detectives believe all incidents may be linked and urged anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward.
“Investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Policelink via the online suspicious activity form, available 24 hours a day at www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting,” the spokesperson said.
The series of early morning fires has left residents concerned, with police continuing to work to determine the cause and identify those responsible.
