Fortitude Valley police have charged a man following the seizure of a tomahawk and a range of drugs during proactive patrols on 16 September.
At around 9:40am, officers stopped a 27-year-old man at the intersection of Brunswick Street and Wickham Street as part of a Jack’s Law wanding. The man allegedly declared he was carrying a tomahawk. Police also seized cocaine, methylamphetamine, cannabis, testosterone, and various items linked to drug use.
The man has been charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, possession of a Schedule 1 drug, possession of property suspected of being acquired for a drug offence, and possession of a knife in a public place. He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on 14 October.
Acting Patrol Inspector Michael Jones said officers regularly conduct patrols and wandings across the Valley’s Safe Night Precinct to detect and deter edged weapons. “Anyone coming into the Valley can expect to see police out on patrol, conducting Jack’s Law wandings, anywhere and at any time,” he said.
Jack’s Law statistics from 6 April 2023 to 16 September show more than 156,290 people scanned statewide, with over 1,440 weapons seized and almost 3,790 people charged. In North Brisbane, over 27,850 people were scanned, with more than 230 weapons seized and over 720 people charged.
